Depression: Hope for Healing

DEPRESSION can steal our joy

                                                        break our hearts

                                                                                         ruin our lives.

There is hope!  Depression can be helped, managed, relieved, even cured.  We will have lectures and workshops for those who struggle and for those who help them.  Come join us as we help each other overcome depression on September 25, 2010 from 9 am-4 pm.  We will close with a healing service that is open to everyone from 4:30 pm-5:45 pm.  Cost is $40 prior to September 13th, after September 13th, $50.

Blue Christmas - The sights, sounds and ceremonies of the run up to Christmas trigger in so many of us wonderful remembrances.  A dear friend reflected on what egg nog triggers in her:  “The taste of egg nog reminds me of the times I'd visit my grandparents who loved egg nog and served it to me.  More especially, they loved me so much.  To this day, egg nog, especially around Christmas, reminds me of how special they made me feel.”

Another friend reflected thus:   “Seeing Santa in the store reminds me of the times when my Dad would wait with me, for HOURS it seemed, so I could have my few minutes on Santa's lap.  Santa must have gotten in touch with my Dad because Dad always seemed to know what to get me.  To this day, seeing Santa in the store reminds me of how special my Dad treated me.”

And sights, sounds, symbols and ceremonies of Christmas (and the two month commercial run-up to it) trigger so many other wonderful recollections in so many people.

But not everyone has such happy memories.  For others -- many we’re learning -- the sights, sounds, symbols and ceremonies of the run up to Christmas trigger sadness, even pain.   Let’s go back to egg nog.I have a friend for whom egg nog brings back that horrible time when his Dad, who truly hated people both in general and in particular, threw a glass of egg nog at a neighbor.  My friend told me, "Every time I see egg nog or even hear its name, I involuntarily shudder.  I even once declined an invitation to a party of people I knew were kind and gracious because they told me they'd be serving egg nog."

And how about mall Santas?  Another friend had parents who were so busy as successful business people and would be jet-setters, they never brought their daughter to see Santa.  She told me, "I have a hard time seeing Santa in the store with the lines of children so excited to see him because MY parents were ‘too busy’ to take me."

Many people just live in the pain and avoid Christmas parties, Christmas services and all that leads up to Christmas.  Why?  These sights, sounds, symbols and ceremonies bring pain and they do not know there is help.

A "Blue Christmas" healing conference looks at these issues with the light of the Gospel -- God's good news -- and the power of God to heal.  There are various aspects to obtaining healing.  In a weekend conference we work through each one carefully and thoroughly.

"If anyone who believes in Christ is a new creation.  The old is gone!  The new has come!  It is all from God.  He brought us back to himself through Christ's death on the cross.  And he has given us the task of bring others back to him through Christ.  God was bring the world back to himself through Christ.  He did not hold people's sins against them.  God has trusted us with the message that people may be brought back to him.  So we are Christ's official messengers.  It is as if God were making his appeal through us.  Here is what Christ wants us to beg you to do.  Come back to God!  Christ didn't have any sin.  But God made him become sin for us.  So we can be made right with God because of what Christ has done for us."
